Project 254: Some colored and cut critters

More fun cards with Claire today. Claire has some great little critter stamps and dies and she was kind enough to let me play with them. The lighting isn't great as I'm taking these from my hotel room, sorry about that!

The hero card is just too much fun. There were a dozen greetings and I thought this combo of 3 was so funny. I crack myself up.

The paper is a scrap from her stash and the little adhesive dots were a new discovery in my exploration of her stash. The critters are colored with ProMarkers and I drew on the border by hand.

This one is a bit simpler. We cut out the cat, shorts, banner and skateboard separately. The papers are all scraps from her stash and the cat's colored with an aqua brush and Distress inks. Another hand drawn border just because it was looking a bit naked.

I love these little critters and can't wait to share them with my mom and sis as I'm seeing them in just a few days!

Project 253: Watercolor stamp effect

This weekend I had an epic NYC playdate with Claire. Wahoo!

We got up to a few fun new tricks and techniques, including the one featured here. She showed how to spray a background stamp with water and then you lay the paper down on top of the stamp. The headline is my second attempt, and I thought it was too much fun.

I used a watercolor stripe stamp from Claire's stash and thought the watermarks looked so good with the textured paper. The cactus is stamped and cut out (Lawn Fawn I think) and made into a sticker - another fun new technique from the playdate. These were colored with an aqua brush and distress inks. The sequins add a touch of fun. The greeting is actually from a different stamp set, but I thought it was a great greeting with the cactus.

This attempt was something a bit different. It was a smaller stamp but stacked it up to get a deeper panel. I thought this looked a bit like rain and used a cloud stamp from a Simon Says Stamp set and cut it out by hand. The grey card is embossed with this gorgeous embossing folder from Claire's stash. She's not allowed to buy folders without me. This is too nice. The little sequins and glue dots are a great little rain dot.

It's a great technique and one definitely to use again.

Project 252: A stamp, a sheet of corrugated paper: 3 cards

In the latest Bugaboo sale, Claire and I went a bit nuts and bought loads of stuff we didn't need but wanted oh-so-badly. This little autumnal display is great. I have a few of the Bugaboo flower-in-jar images and this is a great one for the collection. (See? Justified.)

I printed out these digis in three different sizes as I wasn't sure which size would be best. I colored them all with ProMarkers and then cut them out in circle dies.

I decided to use my new blending tool for 2 of the smaller circles, going from yellow to deep orange. I did the as opposites so one would be light to dark and the other from dark to light. For the biggest one I didn't think there'd be enough background to make it worth it.

For the smaller two I cut circles of orange corrugated card and then used it as the background for the biggest one. I had a real fixation with corrugated card for a while and this is my last scrap of orange.

I think they're really cheerful for autumnal cards and I'm delighted with the final result, two may make their way into the mixed sets for my sister and mom as well...

Project 251: Little birdie set

Following up from yesterday's post, I was listening to Serial and coloring and wanted a really simple set that I could do while coloring. I have a friend's birthday coming up and wanted to get something nice for her made to supplement her gift.

These Jacques birds from Bugaboo are a long-time favorite and so I colored a set of 5 for her, 3 of them featured here. They are so sweet to color and coordinate with papers. I chose 5 scraps from my collection - new new sheets were harmed - and put them on plain white square cards with a candy, just a hint of glitter on the wings. Super CAS, super simple, maybe a touch plain, but I think she'll really like them.

And now I've got to get back as I'm on the last episode of Serial!

Project 250: Animal greetings

I have been listening to the podcast Serial and my husband and I were listening to a few episodes and I decided it was the perfect opportunity to do a coloring session. I wanted a simple layout that I could do without a lot of concentration (Serial is seriously absorbing if you're not a listener of it) and I came up with the concept for this set.

A few weeks ago I got these adorable animal stamps from Bugaboo when they were having a sale. Maybe I'm a sucker for a critter, or a sale, or both, but they really spoke to me. I knew they'd be perfect for a quick and easy little collection of cheerful cards.

They're all colored with ProMarkers and then cut with a circle die. The blue card is cut with a stitched circle die from Claire and I layered it up over some blue chevron paper. It worked out really simply and easily that they all looked cute against the paper and I think despite the cuteness of the animals the colors are masculine enough it could work for anyone I want to give them to.

An easy win. And if you aren't listening...check out Serial. Fascinating stuff.

Project: Animal fun with MAWTT

Welcome back to another week of Moving Along with the Times! This week we have a cute animal theme - something I know you'll have no problem playing along with.

This week's post could also be titled 'Playing with stamps I stole from Claire' because these are all images I convinced her to let me 'borrow'.  I decided to make all of the cards autumnal and used ProMarkers to color in all three of these stamped images.

The image on the headline is from Newton Nook's and this little wagon has 4 or 5 different stamps you can layer on top. For our animal challenge I wanted to show a little ginger cat lost among orange pumpkins. The background is made using Fire Brick and Squeezed Lemonade distress inks and a blending tool. I love the autumnal shades and the pop of white from the stitched die. And the row of red gems is from the 99p store if you'd believe it!

The feature stamp on this one is also from the same set. I thought this little bird and apple combo would be cute with one of my new stitched circle dies from Claire. I decided to go for two spotted backgrounds, the big circles make it a bit more modern I think. The red apple is glittered with Stickles red glitter and the green card is wrapped with American Crafts colored twine in red and green.

Finally this guy is a case from a card Claire made with this Stampin' Up stamp set. The little animal placards are blank and you just add your greeting. And 'I like your face' is a great sentiment. He's stamped onto a stitched die (Claire also left these behind...yes I'm just stealing her stuff now) and I used a scrap of the same spotted red paper from the headline card with a corner rounder to match the shape. The backing paper was free in a card mag ages ago and the ribbon is from my wedding 5 years ago - yes I still have some left!

I loved the animal challenge and I can't wait to see what everyone else does with it as well.

Project 249: a very special birthday card

I am loving the blending tool and I thought it would be a great technique to make a special birthday card for a friend. I wanted it to be festive and modern, arty and different. And if that's the brief, I love the result here.

I used two distress inks for the background and added a splatter of green ink, then quickly blotted it off to get a nice watermark on the card.

I stamped the greeting and used black embossing powder  to get texture. It speckled a bit but I don't actually mind with this card since the background is blotted anyway. The crimped paper is from an embellishment set Claire gave me and I thought that it was the perfect festive touch for the card. The blingy 30 is from a sticker set Claire bought me as well.

I love the combined techniques here and think this is one badass birthday card. Will definitely do again for special friends!
